What happens when a nation thinks it’s too rich, too secure, and too connected to ever fall? In Ezekiel 27, God takes down Tyre, the economic superpower of its day, in a single devastating lament. Their ships, their trade, their confidence—all swallowed by the sea. Join me as we ask: could what happened to Tyre happen to us?
Pastor Brian Noble, in this devotional, we walk through Ezekiel 27 and God’s lament over Tyre, a stunningly wealthy port city that believed it was “perfect in beauty” and untouchable in its security. Pastor Brian reads the chapter almost in full, highlighting Tyre’s global trade network and its central place in the ancient world’s economy. Yet despite its power, God judges Tyre for its pride and its mistreatment of Israel, bringing its wealth, ships, and soldiers down into the heart of the sea. The episode closes in prayer, asking God to keep us from trusting in our own prosperity and to anchor our hope in Christ alone as we defend and advance biblical values in the public square.
