Most of us feel frustration when we see how our tax dollars are spent, especially when government funds things that oppose a biblical worldview. But what if paying taxes could actually be an act of obedience to God when we see God behind legitimate authority? Jesus said, “Render to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s,” calling us to both obedience and courageous advocacy. In this devotional, we’ll explore how to honor God with our pocketbook while pushing back against policies that fund evil instead of protecting the innocent.
In this episode, Pastor Brian Noble unpacks Romans 13 and Matthew 22 to show that governing authorities are established by God and that paying taxes, in the right context, can be an act of obedience to God. He argues that government’s God-given role is to punish evil and protect the innocent, not to indoctrinate children or fund abortion and unbiblical ideologies through taxation. While affirming Jesus’ command to “render to Caesar,” he urges believers to advocate for laws and leaders who align civil spending with biblical values. The episode closes by challenging listeners to examine their attitude toward taxes, pursue financial integrity, and pray for a limited, God-honoring government.
